Our school is growing! Our student body has more than doubled in the last couple of years and we are busting at the seams! This is such a great problem to have as it means that we are reaching more and more children with the gospel as well as providing nutritious meals, spiritual development, solid education and many extra curricular activities! Our school ranking is increasing as well which means that our students are being invited to sports tournaments and choir/dance competitions. An extra bus will offer us the ability to transport students to various parts around the county in order to compete. The bus can also be used to take staff and team members to and from our various rural school locations. 

In November 2025, a devastating fire swept through the South B slum in Nairobi, destroying hundreds of homes and businesses and forever changing the lives of countless families. The fire reached the grounds surrounding REM South B School and caused significant damage to our facilities. By God's grace, however, the main school structure remained standing. As our community worked together to recover and rebuild, an unexpected opportunity emerged. Land adjacent to the school became available, creating a rare chance to expand our campus and serve even more children in one of Nairobi's most vulnerable communities. What began as a tragedy has opened the door to hope. For years, REM South B has provided education, stability, discipleship, and opportunity to children living in difficult circumstances. With additional classrooms and expanded facilities, we can welcome more students, reduce overcrowding, and continue investing in the next generation of leaders. The Expansion The new addition will transform REM South B from a school that is stretched beyond capacity into a campus equipped to meet the growing needs of the community. The expansion includes: Three new classrooms to serve additional students. A large multi-purpose hall and stage for school assemblies, church services, community gatherings, and student programs. Expanded office and administrative space. Additional restroom facilities and improved circulation throughout the building. A larger dining area to serve students more efficiently. Additional storage and support spaces to better serve the school community. This expansion represents more than bricks and concrete. It means: More children receiving a quality education. More students hearing the Gospel. More families experiencing hope and opportunity. A stronger and more resilient South B community. Building in Faith Construction is already underway. One of the beautiful realities of ministry partnerships in Kenya is the trust that has been built over many years of serving faithfully together. Local builders have agreed to begin work before all of the funds have been raised, trusting our reputation and commitment to fulfill our obligations as support comes in. Their faith in this mission has allowed progress to begin immediately rather than waiting months or years for funding to be secured. Now we have the opportunity to stand alongside them and finish what has already begun! Our Goal The total cost to complete the South B expansion is $57,757 USD. Every dollar given moves this project closer to completion and creates space for future generations of students to learn, grow, and thrive. The fire may have changed the landscape of the neighborhood, but it did not destroy the vision. Together, we can help South B rise stronger than before. Help REM Schools replace costly firewood with clean, sustainable biogas and redirect thousands of dollars each year back into education! Right now, our schools in Kenya rely entirely on firewood to cook meals and heat water for students. Every single day, the schools burn approximately 230 pieces of firewood, costing about 2.1 million Kenyan shillings per year (roughly $16,000 USD annually). This approach has several challenges: Trees must continually be cut down for fuel. Firewood prices continue to rise. Smoke from wood fires impacts air quality. The schools spend thousands of dollars every year on a resource that is used once and gone. What is Biogas? Biogas is a renewable energy system that turns organic waste—such as animal manure and food scraps—into clean-burning gas. The gas is captured underground and used for cooking and heating water, replacing firewood almost entirely. Think of it as turning waste into fuel. How Would It Help REM Schools? The proposed underground biogas system would: Eliminate the need for cooking firewood. Provide enough energy to heat water for students. Generate excess energy that can be converted into electricity, helping reduce utility bills. Reduce deforestation and environmental impact. Create a reliable, sustainable energy source for decades. The Financial Impact Current Annual Firewood Cost: 2,098,750 Kenyan shillings per year $16,114 US Dollars  One-Time Biogas Installation Cost: 1,196,150 Kenyan shillings $9,201 US Dollars  Annual Maintenance Cost: Approximately 70,000 Kenyan shillings $538 US Dollars In other words, the entire biogas system costs less than what the schools currently spend on firewood in a single year. After installation, the schools would save roughly $15,576 US dollars every year while continuing to cook meals and provide hot water for students. Why This Is a Great Investment Unlike many projects that require continual fundraising, biogas creates long-term savings. One donation creates benefits for 25–30 years. The system pays for itself in well under a year. It reduces operating expenses year after year. It frees up funds that can instead be used for teachers, classrooms, student meals, and educational programs. It protects the environment by reducing the need for firewood. The Opportunity By funding this biogas project, donors are not simply purchasing equipment—they are helping REM Schools become more self-sustaining for the next generation of students.
