Hope Rising After the Fire: Standing With Our Students This Week

GOAL: $39,284.00

As we look back on this past year, our hearts are full of gratitude. Because of your faithfulness, we have seen lives changed, students thriving, and hope growing across our schools in Kenya. It truly has been an incredible year—one marked by joy, growth, and the unmistakable presence of God at work.

And yet, alongside that joy is the sober reality our students face every single day.

Recently, a devastating fire tore through our South B Elementary School in Nairobi. In a matter of hours, classrooms were destroyed and nearly everything inside them was lost. For our students—many of whom are orphans—this loss goes far beyond buildings and supplies. It stripped them of the most basic tools they need to learn, grow, and move forward.

As we begin the work of rebuilding, the needs before us fall into three critical categories.

The most immediate need—this week—is for 46 of our students who are graduating from elementary school and preparing to start junior high at our boarding school. Because of the severity of the fire, they lost all required personal items and uniforms. With no families or financial means to replace them, they cannot begin school without help.

Each student needs:

  • 2 trousers or 2 skirts, 2 sweaters, 2 blouses, 2 shirts, 2 track suits, PE kit, 2 pajamas, 2 pairs of socks, 2 ties

The cost is $100 per student, totaling $4,600 to ensure all 46 students can start school with dignity and confidence.

Beyond this urgent need, we are also working to rebuild temporary classrooms at South B.

Below is a list of the costs associated with rebuilding the classrooms that were lost in the fire.

15 trucks loads of red soil - $2,909
400 bags of cement - $2,638
250 posts - $388
1 box of nails - $66
15 windowpanes - $675
15 buckets of commercial grade paint - $1,241
10 paint rollers - $27
10 paint brushes - $35
5 PVC pipes, 5 PVC fittings and 5 PVC elbows - $78
4 packets of plumbing glue - $37
5 bottles of turpentine - $66
4 buckets of super gloss paint - $109
10 scrubbers - $16
Labors - $3,572

With reconstruction costs totaling $11,857 and the additional costs in replacing the essential supplies lost in the fire—desks, chairs, books, blackboards, lockers, and more—totaling $34,684.

The total need before us is $39,284.

This is a big number, but we serve a big God—and we are continually reminded that He often chooses to work through the generosity of His people. Your support in this moment is more than financial assistance; it is a tangible reminder to our students that they are seen, loved, and not alone.

Will you help us raise the $4,600 immediately so that our students can attend school by Jan 5th?

And will you partner with us in a big way to rebuild our South B school?

Thank you for celebrating the victories of this past year with us, and for standing with us now as we walk through this challenge. Together, we believe that from these ashes, hope will rise again.
